Mark meets Marcus (Art meets Maths)

In this film for The Space, we invited mathematician Marcus du Sautoy (a Cambridge university professor equally at home presenting on BBC2 and comedy channel Dave) to meet artist Mark Wallinger at his studio in London.

Mark's latest exhibition at BALTIC, Gateshead consists of a number of large works grappling with the themes of probability, order and unimaginably massive numbers. 10000000000000000, for example, is made from 65,536 stones placed on a giant checkerboard.

During their meeting, the artist and mathematician found they had much in common.
