Susan Philipsz: Timeline

The Edinburgh Art Festival invited me to document Timeline, a specially commissioned city-wide installation by Susan Philipsz.

In contrast to Surround Me, her City of London installation that we filmed in 2010, Timeline is heard for just a few seconds, once per day, in various locations across the city. From Calton Hill to Edinburgh Castle, a line of speakers calls out Philipsz's voice in response to the firing of the One O'Clock Gun. Our film aims to capture the atmosphere of each location, and give the viewer the chance to travel along the line of the work - something you couldn't do in real life.
