The Palace that Joan Built

A live performance by Gwyneth Herbert and Mel Brimfield that took place at Stratford Underground station in October 2014. This was one of many nationwide tributes to legendary theatre director Joan Littlewood, and the first part of Mel and Gwyn's Art on the Underground project to commemorate her life and work. This film captures the atmosphere of the day and gives you a chance to hear some of the songs featured in the artists' forthcoming 'musical biography' of Joan. We also hear from musicians and the actor and close friend of Joan's, Murray Melvin.
