Rachel Whiteread's Tree of Life

Whitechapel High Street has never looked so good after the Whitechapel Art Gallery commissioned Rachel Whiteread to create a new permanent frieze for their building's facade.

Tree of Life is made up of numerous gold-leafed bronze leaves along with a trademark Whiteread negative cast of a window, made from terracotta.

I've been following the making of the commission in a series of films which took us to art fabricators, foundries and factories across East London and Leicester, witnessing extraordinary techniques along the way. I also interviewed Rachel Whiteread about her inspiration for the project. The films were commissioned jointly by Whitechapel Art Gallery and The Space.
